KUL Project Mobility in Slovenia: Tradition, Creativity, and Sustainable Inspiration

The KUL Project continues to unfold its vibrant tapestry of experiences during the ongoing mobility in Slovenia, focused on the sector of Sustainable Cultural Tourism. Hosted by the Development Centre Murska Sobota, this week-long exchange brings together participants from Croatia, Serbia, and Slovenia, aiming to explore models of sustainable cultural practices, community engagement, and innovative tourism.

On the third day of the program, participants had the opportunity to dive deep into the cultural heritage and artistic creativity of the Pomurje region.

A Journey Through Time in Filovci

The day began with a visit to the Museum of Pottery and Architecture of Pomurje in the picturesque village of Filovci. This open-air museum preserves the rich traditions of Pannonian rural life. Participants explored authentic traditional clay houses with thatched roofs, handcrafted ovens, and wooden architectural elements that reflect the simplicity and resourcefulness of past generations.

The museum not only showcases historical architecture but also serves as a powerful reminder of the value of preserving local identity through cultural tourism. For many participants, this visit sparked meaningful discussions about how similar cultural heritage models could be adapted and promoted in their own regions.

Creativity and Sustainability at Zavod Mlin

The next destination was Zavod Mlin, an innovative rural center located in Pečarovci. Surrounded by the natural beauty of Pomurje’s gentle hills, this location offers a space where nature, tradition, and creativity meet.

Here, participants engaged in a creative workshop led by local artists and facilitators. They learned about sustainable living concepts, community-based initiatives, and the importance of nurturing cultural ecosystems that support both heritage and innovation. The atmosphere was both relaxing and stimulating—an ideal setting to reflect on the intersection of culture, environment, and entrepreneurship.

A Taste of Pomurje

To round off the day, the group gathered for a traditional Pomurje-style lunch, continuing conversations about cross-border collaboration, rural revitalization, and sustainable cultural models. These shared meals are more than just moments of nourishment—they are also spaces of connection, where ideas grow and partnerships strengthen.

Looking Ahead

As the mobility continues, so does the excitement. From traditional crafts to contemporary art, from ecological farms to Roma community visits, this mobility program is offering participants a comprehensive look at sustainable tourism in action.
