Embracing Heritage Through Threads – VEZIONICA Workshop at KUC Travno

As part of the ongoing mobility program in Croatia for participants in the Fashion & Design sector of the KUL Project, our group had the unique opportunity to dive deeper into traditional textile heritage through a hands-on workshop at KUC Travno – the Croatian Cultural Centre specialized in folk costumes, traditional textiles, and stage garments.

On this occasion, participants took part in the enchanting workshop titled “VEZIONICA – TAMBURIRANO / Getting Up Close with Heritage”, led by the wonderful and experienced Slavica Rajković – affectionately known to all as auntie Slavica.

With skilled hands and a heart full of knowledge, Slavica guided the group through the basics of traditional tambour embroidery, a technique with deep roots in regional costume-making. This wasn’t just about needle and thread – it was a journey into history, tradition, and identity, woven into each stitch.

Through this experience, participants gained not only technical insight into embroidery but also a new appreciation for the cultural richness that lies within these age-old crafts. The workshop atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and incredibly inspiring – as if we were all briefly transported into the past, connected by thread and story.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to KUC Travno for opening its doors and sharing its incredible knowledge, and to teta Slavica for her kindness, energy, and passion for preserving cultural heritage in such a personal way.
