KUL Fashion & Design Mobility in Bjelovar – Workshop 2: From Concept to Prototype Hosted by CUK Bjelovar

After a successful and creatively charged start to the mobility week, participants of the KUL Project – Fashion & Design Sector continued their learning journey in Bjelovar with Workshop 2: Reconstructing, Developing & Building the First Prototype.

Following the energy and inspiration drawn from Workshop 1, where moodboards were created using a variety of materials like pastels, fabric swatches, thread, magazine clippings, and sketches, participants were ready to take the next step — turning vision into reality.

Under the expert guidance of instructor Maja Jakumatović, they explored the process of garment development through sustainable fashion practices. The focus of the day was clear: Designing Without Waste. With scissors in hand and ideas in motion, participants learned how to deconstruct existing materials, reconstruct them into new forms, and begin shaping the first prototypes of their unique fashion pieces.

What made the day particularly impactful was the strong emphasis on conscious creation — considering not only aesthetic value but also function, resource use, and emotional connection with the end product. The workshop encouraged collaboration, critical thinking, and experimentation, all crucial elements in modern design education.

The space was filled with creativity, laughter, fabric scraps, and focused minds. From layout to cutting, stitching to pinning — each participant took another step closer to their final product.

This hands-on approach to learning through doing is a hallmark of the KUL Project’s methodology — equipping participants with practical skills, conceptual insight, and a stronger sense of creative identity.

And this is just the beginning. The rest of the week promises more workshops, learning opportunities, and project development — all rooted in sustainability and cultural appreciation.

Stay tuned as we continue sharing moments from this inspiring mobility in Bjelovar!
